Okay, Now Onto My Personal Experience
The honest reason that I started drinking greens powder daily was in hopes that it would help me lose weight. I was on a high protein, low carb diet, and I knew that I wasn’t getting in enough micronutrients from fruits or veggies. Since I still wanted to enjoy delicious foods like rice, pasta, and potatoes, I wasn’t willing to “use” my carbs on fruits or veggies in order to make that happen. I saw a fitness girl posting about how she swears by her greens powder and how it has changed her life, so I decided to give it a shot. I ordered the same one that she was raving about, excited to give it a try, especially since she went on and on about how it “actually tasted good”. My order came in and I mixed it with water, just like she did, and boy was I disappointed. It tasted like straight up dirt, I could not finish it. I tried many different ways of drinking it — mixing it with juice, protein powder, mixing it into a smoothie, taking it like a shot, you name it. But no matter what concoction I came up, it still tasted like dirt and I could not get past that taste. So I put it in the cabinet and let it sit there for months, feeling disappointed, defeated, and wasteful.
I honestly don’t even know how much time went by at this point, but I decided to give it another go and just forced myself to finish the tub. Curious to see if I would notice any of the alleged benefits from it, I forced myself to drink it daily. I found that if I mixed it with lemonade, added in a packet of Gatorade Propel powder, and some Mio water enhancer, I was able to tolerate it.
So fast forward a month, I finished that tub and decided to keep it going but I wanted to try a different greens powder (one that was cheaper honestly). So I ordered Amazing Grass from Amazon and meanwhile it still didn’t taste great, it definitely wasn’t as harsh of a taste as the first brand I tried. I kept this up for 6 whole months, drinking it daily, and it got to the point where I would almost crave the drink!
My Results
Throughout these 6 months, I definitely noticed some changes. The first being that my skin seemed to clear up. I struggle with cystic acne which is often caused by hormones within the body. So I was always under the impression that until I can get my hormones situated, I will also have to deal with cystic acne. Well coincidentally, my cystic acne began to clear up after consistently drinking the greens powder. I don’t know if there is a correlation, I also don’t have an exact time frame on how long it took for me to notice this (I’m the worst, sorry!), but what I do know is that it was enough for me to keep drinking my greens powder every day. If you’ve ever dealt with cystic acne, you know how painful it is. And the worst of it is that topical treatments don’t typically work, the cysts stick around for a long time, and they often leave lovely scars.
Throughout these 6 months, I also noticed changes in my energy levels and mental clarity. I felt like I had more energy throughout the day, was in a better mood, and was able to think better and more clearly. This could be due to the amount of micronutrients I was ingesting on a daily basis or the fact that I wasn’t eating much junk food since I was focusing on my micronutrient intake.
Overall Thoughts
Would I recommend greens powder? Yes! Do I think it’s absolutely necessary to have greens powder as part of your daily routine? No. But if you are someone who doesn’t eat enough fruits and vegetables throughout the day, and you care about things like your gut health, mental clarity, longevity, and your overall health, then yes I would recommend you drink a greens powder daily. Did it make me lose weight like I was originally hoping for? Nope. Did it help clear my skin, give me more energy, and improve my mood & mental clarity? Potentially, yes!
